June is a tough month at Melting It Productions and it's entirely a problem of our own making. We're always quieter than the rest of the year and I thought it might be helpful to learn a few lessons from us so you might be able to avoid the same problems we face when June and July roll around.
First up, one of the services we don't shout about on the website is that I'm a freelance sport commentator (annnouncer if you're from the USA), presenter and reporter. I spend 8-9 months of the year focussing on Manchester United and their season.
It means that I'm extraordinarily busy in the final few months of the football season. This year, I've had the busiest footballing April on record, the end of the season in May and my annual trip away with a friend the week before the FA Cup final between Manchester United and Manchester City.
Now, here's where the error comes in. We're a really small team and were hyper-focussed on delivering the best quality content we can for our clients. So, when one of the three of us isn't available it increases the pressure and workload on the other two. Then things start having to be prioritised. That means we keep our focus on the delivery for our existing clients and don't spend enough time finding new business in the summer months.
So, how do we manage and what have we learned?
Client Relationships
First up, client relationships are absolutely pivotal. We've worked really hard to grow and develop relationships with our clients and it means we now have long-standing clients who we work with year-round. This might just be the difference between surviving a quiet period and the company credit card creaking under the strain.
Identify Your Pinch Points
Use your tools wisely!
Over the coming weeks, we've got a couple of things going on for existing clients, but there's space in our diary in July if you've got an idea you'd like to make come to life. Whether that's a new podcast idea, a creative film you'd like making for your business or a fancy drone shot to help you achieve a bit of cinematic brilliance, drop us a line. We'd love to have a chat.
